Floods displace 70,000 and kill 36 in Mozambique

(January and February 2013 - source: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-21206347 and UN

The UN has staff on the ground in the worst-affected areas where food distribution has begun, and is setting up water supply structures, but Ms Topping, UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Mozambique, said that: "We will be appealing to our donors to make additional funds available immediately to help deal with this emergency."

But it appears that aid has not yet reached many of the displaced. An AFP reporter in Gaza (Mozambique) saw tens of thousands of people camping out at roadsides, some forced to eat grasshoppers to survive.

About

Children like the one in the picture above are all over Africa. Children who have to walk miles just to get dirty water to drink, taken from swamps and wells shared with animals. Children who die from avoidable waterborne bacteria diseases.

Let's put an end to it.

It's not right, it's not fair!

What are we doing?

  • We dealt with iStraw company to get a nice price for a 5.000 purifying water  order (regular retail price: $33 / price for us: $21).
  • Those straws will be sent to Mozambique
  • UNICEF will locally manage he distribution of the straws
  • 5.000 straws can save 5.000 lifes! Especially children's.

What can you do?
